We are sorry to report that due to refurbishment in the University Learning Centre, the WEA Archive in the TUC Library Collections will be unavailable from June 14 - September 6, 2010. We apologise for the inconvenience to researchers.

The catalogue of the Archive is available at http://www.londonmet.ac.uk/library/p75557_3.pdf .
For enquiries or to arrange to visit, please telephone 020 71332260 or email tuclib@londonmet.ac.uk.

The WEA has been providing education for adults throughout the country for over one hundred years. It was founded in 1903 to improve the learning opportunities of the working class by bringing together supporters of the working-class education movement from the churches, the Co-operative Movement, trade unions and the University Extension Movement.

Along the way the WEA has accumulated a vast amount of historical information, including minutes from meetings, publications, annual reports and much more. Looking through the archive gives an insight on how the WEA grew into one of the UK's biggest charities.

All this information is catalogued and stored in the WEA archive situated at London Metropolitan University. It is free to visit and is also where the Trade Union Congress (TUC) library is situated.

A promotional leaflet the WEA used to advertise courses which were on offer.   A report on education which the WEA published during the war in 1942.   The Highway, a monthly Journal released by the WEA
