A group of WEA art students have had their work displayed at an exhibition held at Quest House, part of Loughborough University. The 'One Night Stand' exhibition, held last month, displayed a variety artwork from WEA tutor Erica Middlleton's art classes.
The evening was a great success, with students from drawing, painting and acrylic media classes all displaying a high standard of work. Students' ranged from beginners to more experienced artists who worked on large-scale imaginative explorations. Erica said: "Putting the work together in volume like this hasn't been done before, and it gives the students, friends and family a chance to see the nature of what has been achieved."
On the same evening was the Loughborough University's Open Degree Show. Audiences from there went into the WEA's exhibition and were very impressed with the great work that they saw.
East Midlands regional curriculum leader for Art & Media studies, Martin Hyams, attended the exhibition as guest speaker. Martin said: "It never ceases to amaze me the quality of work produced by WEA learners, none more so than tonight, and efforts they and the tutor Erica Middleton had put into holding such an exhibition'.
Along with Erica, students played a big part in organising the exhibition. They didn't only supply the works of art for the event, but provided food and drink for all the guests to enjoy. Erica adds: "It was very heart-warming to see the mounting enthusiasm for the event, and the willingness of everyone to contribute."
